One of my greatest passions is researching and building travel itineraries. It’s one thing to want to see a bunch of things in a new place — but the question I love answering for each trip is not only what to do but how? In what order? What will that day look like as a whole? When are things open/closed and how will that effect the itinerary? How should I plan out each day with the intention to create an amazing experience for that day (instead of a frenzied, time-wasting mad dash between a bunch of tourist traps) ? At some point, you have to decide what to do when, right? I love creating a plan for a curated experience in a new place and then traveling there to execute that plan. Over the years, I’ve noticed that these itineraries have come to take a particular shape. I’ve found that, for me, the most satisfying travels consist of:
- Seeking out a cultural experience that is representative of that country or city
- Enjoying a wine or beer related activity
- Riding bicycles
- Exploring an interesting or hip neighborhood
- Getting out into nature
- Great food
- Finding time and spaces for relaxation, quiet reflection and to soak in the moment/new culture I’m experiencing
I’m endlessly curious to experience the unique ways these activities are expressed and enjoyed in each country or city that I visit.
So, instead of having all of these hours of research and these awesome (personal opinion) itineraries sitting on my computer, this blog is a way to share them for everyone to use as inspiration or a blueprint for their next trip.
